In honor of its 25th anniversary, Temple of the Dog will be re-releasing the only LP the super group ever produced on September 30th. And now fans can hear “Black Cat,” one of the demos that failed to make the self-titled album’s cut.

At over five minutes long, the demo appears on the deluxe re-release package, which includes the original LP along with several cuts and tracks that haven’t seen the light of day until now. “Black Cat” is a moody, gritty tune with staccato-like drums punctuating a melodic bell while Cornell wails, “Black cat, black cat’s gone/ Gone for good, gone for long/ Don’t believe I made it home/ And I hope he don’t come home.”

Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell formed Temple of the Dog with Pearl Jam members Jeff Ament, Mike McCready and Stone Gossard as a way to honor Mother Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood, who died of an overdose in 1990. They will be reuniting for a brief tour this fall as part of the anniversary celebration.

Listen to “Black Cat” below.
